MT KILIMANJARO trekker Rosy Borland is off this weekend on her “moment of madness”, climbing Africa’s highest peak.
The Hamlyn Heights mother of three has easily raised $4000 to join the UNICEF climb thanks to generous Independent readers.
Rosy said the response to the Independent publicising her monster garage sale in February was “amazing”.
“So many people saw the article and got in touch and offered to help, so that was really cool, although I’m not sure I’ve inspired anyone to go and climb the mountain,” she laughed.
The actual climb would be less easy, Rosy admitted, but she was determined to see the challenge through.
“I’m feeling like, ‘Ooh, my God, what have I done?’, at the moment but I’ve prepared all I can and I’m fit as can possibly be.
“I’ve got all my gear and I just have to pack my bags.”
Rosy will undertake the seven-day ascent of the world’s highest free-standing mountain as part of a group of 25 climbers, accompanied by various guides and porters, walking five to seven hours a day.
One of her guides will carry a GPS tracker, allowing supporters to follow Rosy’s progress.
