Corio Bay Sports Club left behind its shipping container changerooms yesterday thanks to a $400,000 upgrade.
City of Greater Geelong’s improvements to Evans Reserve Pavilion included new changerooms, toilets and showers, storage areas, social club renovations, installation of viewing windows and facilities for umpires.
Councillor David Saunderson said Corio Bay Sports Club members had put up with thirdrate conditions for years.
“Before the upgrade players were using the social club area as their changing rooms, with the soccer players using a converted shipping container as a changing area before their matches,” he said.
“It wasn’t good enough for a club that has done such marvellous things for young people in the northern suburbs.”
Cr Saunderson said club members were “jumping out of their skins” in anticipation of moving into the new facilities.
