HIGH winds sent three people overboard when their 17-foot boat flipped on Corio Bay last weekend.
Geelong Coast Guard commander Peter Burrow said strengthening wind caught out the trio unexpectedly late Sunday afternoon.
“The owner was a Geelong resident with two people onboard – visitors from the United States – and they were out for a pleasant afternoon sail when the southerly got up and all hell broke out,” Cmdr Burrow said.
“She just rolled over when a gust caught them unexpectedly. No one was harmed, although a lady on board was wrapped in blankets with a bit of hypothermia.
“Once we got her back we gave her a couple of cups of coffee. I said. ‘That’s a good experience to tell the folks back home in the states’.”
