A GEELONG nine-year-old blogger is creating a stir in Melbourneā€™s restaurant industry with her reviews of some of the cityā€™s best venues.
Orla Mundyā€™s blog, The Big V, has surprised leading restaurateurs with observations like ā€œthe power of richness blasted into my tastebudsā€ and ā€œa sweet, squishy and soft delight with crumbly vegetable stuffingā€.
While most grade three students prefer spaghetti bolognaise or fast food, the chirpy Newtown blogger listed vegetable soups and vegetarian curry as her favourite foods.
ā€œIā€™ve been blogging for about a year or so,ā€ Orla said. ā€œMum and dad explained all about blogging to me at dinner one night and I was really into it.
ā€œItā€™s all about being a vegetarian and reviewing restaurants and popular events.ā€
Orla said her blog had received attention from family, friends, restaurateurs and ā€œrandom peopleā€ in cyberspace.
ā€œSome people have gone to the restaurants Iā€™ve suggested and Iā€™ve had a lot of positive feedback.ā€
One of Orlaā€™s fan posted on her blogsite: ā€œThis is the best website Iā€™ve ever seen, bookmarkedā€.
Another said: ā€œOrla, you are incredible! Your blog will now officially be my bible to live and dine byā€.
Many readers expressed amazement at Orlaā€™s maturity and taste for ā€œinterestingā€ cuisine.
ā€œJust found your blog and as a year three teacher I have to say that you are an amazing young girl, what a gift,ā€ a reader wrote.
Melbourne restaurants were equally generous in their praise of Orlaā€™s quirky reviews.
Japanese-inspired restaurant Colonel Tanā€™s said: ā€œWe love your blogā€.
Carltonā€™s Bande A Part Pizza Bar wrote: ā€œThank you for your wonderful pizza poem, it brought a smile to our facesā€.
Orla was humble about the praise, saying she never expected so much attention.
ā€œI never realised it would be as big as this.ā€
ā€œItā€™s just a hobby for me and I love to do it but maybe one day it will be a career.ā€
Littered with quirky terms like ā€œfantasmagoricalā€ and cosmopolitan dishes such as ā€œpotato pizza with truffle oilā€, the blog also reviewed popular Melbourne events and provided detailed updates on Orlaā€™s pet chickens, Molly and Chicko.
ā€œI usually do a blog entry every week or so but whenever I see a cool thing around Geelong or Melbourne I put it up there straight away,ā€ she said.
