PM”s decendant visits home before demolition

A DESCENDENT of Australia’s second Prime Minister has made a nostalgic visit to a Point Lonsdale home of greatgrandfather Alfred Deakin’s before its demolition in the next few weeks.
Dr Belinda Coyte travelled from Adelaide to see the home where her ancestor holidayed for eight years.
Borough of Queenscliffe has given the new owners permission to tear down the rundown weatherboard house.
The decision has outraged Dr Coyte.
“I needed to see the state of the house for myself,” she said.
“It’s very run down but I believe it could be salvaged. I’ve heard some people live in worse conditions.
“I’m still hoping someone will come forward and offer to move and restore it but time is of the essence now because soon it will be too late.”
Dr Coyte planned to return to the house with her children before the property was “lost forever”.
