Coalition promises $20 million to rebuild Geelong High School

GEELONG High School’s long-awaited redevelopment is guaranteed after the state coalition promised $20 million to overhaul the entire campus.
The pledge follows a similar promise earlier this month from the opposition, which vowed to overhaul the school if voters returned Labor to government in November.
Premier Denis Napthine said the upcoming budget would include $8.5 million to start work.
The remaining $11.5 million would flow if the coalition won re-election.
“Nearly 1000 students attend Geelong High School and this announcement will provide them with brand new, state-of-the-art learning spaces that will complement modern teaching methods,” Dr Napthine said.
“It will also see Geelong High School equipped with new technology and personal development facilities, new seminar and art facilities, a new
library and new physical education facilities.
“This $20 million commitment will see the Geelong High School master plan completed in its entirety
The Liberal’s candidate for the Labor-held state seat of Geelong, Paula Kontelj, welcomed the announcement.
“Geelong High is my former school and I am proud and thrilled about this Coalition Government commitment today,” she said.
“This announcement will delight students, teachers and parents both past and present as the school is Geelong’s first secondary state school and
holds special memories for so many people in our community over so many years.”
