Chief right man for plan, says group

By CHERIE DONNELLAN

TORQUAY’S residents’ association is “confident” Surf Coast Shire’s new chief executive will successfully lead council in its next four-year plan.
President of 3228 residents association Sid Pope said the group “appreciated [its] relationship” with Stephen Wall since his appointment in September.
“We’re confident the council is being led in a competent fashion that would lead [it] to achieving its goals,” Mr Pope said.
Council began community workshops last month to discuss its 2013-to-2017 plan after releasing a progress report showing 25 “incomplete” actions for the previous four-year strategy.
Mr Wall said council was “mostly still on track” to achieve the remaining tasks by the end of June.
He said he would support councillors in defining goals for the next plan, which would include improvements in council’s communication process.
“Council is keen to look at how to better communicate with ratepayers and residents. We want to improve the transparency of council,” Mr Wall said.
Council’s draft ideas included an objective to deliver “inclusive and accountable governance,” he said.
