THE region’s school students will be able to get closer to their Geelong Football Club heroes than ever before with a new education centre in the unfinished Players’ Stand at Simonds Stadium.
The new centre has already been christened, more than a month before opening, as the Cats Deakin Community Centre.
The 800-square-metre facility includes a computer lab, meeting rooms and a multi-purpose area to be fitted out with the latest technology.
Cats chief Brian Cook said the centre would become a hub for the club’s community programs.
The facility would also be a resource for external organisations as a training, meeting and seminar or lecture venue.
The centre will also be home to the club’’s past players and officials association, house club memorabilia and become a starting point for popular Home of the Cats tours.
Deakin University Vice Chancellor Jane den Hollander said the centre would facilitate several programs centering on sports science, health and nutrition.
