BP’s Lorne LPG cuts ‘absolutely unbelievable’, says angry MP

FUEL giant BP has come under attack from Corangamite MP Sarah Henderson for cutting LPG supplies at its Lorne service station.

“It is absolutely unbelievable and a very poor reflection on BP,” she said this morning.

“Lorne is an area of high fire risk and BP needs to ensure that there is no repeat of this incident.

“I am also very worried about fuel supply in Lorne more broadly, after the service station ran out of fuel in the middle of the peak holiday period.”

Ms Henderson said she had been advised by BP of a decline in LPG use but said the decision to stop supplying LPG was “extremely damaging for Lorne and the local economy”.

“BP must immediately reverse its decision and guarantee ongoing LPG supplies to the people of Lorne,” she said.

“As the only petrol station in town, BP has a fundamental responsibility to invest in the infrastructure needed to improve LPG supplies in Lorne.”

Ms Henderson described the BP move as “irresponsible and uncaring”.

“I will be writing to the president of BP Australasia, Andy Holmes, seeking that BP reverse its decision and I will continue to advocate very strongly on behalf of the Lorne community.  This includes raising this issue with Small Business Minister, Bruce Billson,” she said.

“For anyone impacted by this decision, I would be delighted to make representations to BP on your behalf.

“Like Colac, Lorne has also been suffering high fuel prices which are simply unacceptable.  BP must stop gouging local residents and holiday makers alike.”
