Record crowds have flocked to Geelong’s waterfront for Victoria’s oldest sporting event, according to organisers.
Audi Victoria Week shoreside coordinator John Jackson said this year’s 166th regatta had pulled the largest crowds he had seen for the event.
Fireworks on Monday night attracted a record crowd, he said.
More than 440 yachts and 4400 competitors attended the regatta, which began at Melbourne’s Docklands before spending the rest of the event in Geelong.
“The weather certainly helped us, it’s been beautiful,” Mr Johnson said.
“It was a real family atmosphere and everyone appeared to be thoroughly enjoying the experience.”
