Music festival to rock March

BY MICHELLE HERBISON

MOTOR City Music Festival is now inviting applications from local bands and market stalls to get involved in the inaugural event at Geelong Showgrounds.
Festival organiser Hugo T Armstrong says the event will celebrate Geelong and the region, featuring plenty of local bands and organised by local staff and suppliers.
“There was a real willingness for having a festival here and I was determined to celebrate 20 years of The Blues Train,” he said.
“We’re Victoria’s second-largest city – can you believe Geelong doesn’t already have its own music festival?
“Each day is a bit different; it’s cheap, accessible and celebrating what’s great about Geelong.”
Entry to the overage Friday night event is just $37 to hear acts including Chocolate Starfish, Jimi Hocking’s Blues Machine and Nick Barker and the Heartache State.
On Saturday tickets are just $50 for a day and night event featuring a string of regulars from Queenscliff’s The Blues Train, celebrating its 20th anniversary with performers like Lloyd Spiegel and Claude Hay.
Saturday’s main stage will be dedicated to tribute acts including Kisstroyer – Australia’s Hottest Kiss Tribute, Thunderstruck – The Ultimate AC/DC Tribute and The Doors Show – Absolutely Live.
“Come to the main stage that day and you’ll know the words to every song,” Hugo says.
On Sunday, children can accompany adults to the festival for a variety of fantastic music, carnival rides and great food.
Hugo says Motor City Music Festival will focus on Geelong’s strengths in music, culture and tourism.
“We’re not going to turn Geelong around economically in one fell swoop but it’s a good way to get people out to have a good time.”
