Christmas carnival in Newtown

Families will celebrate the festive season in style this evening as Newtown’s Fyans Park Primary School opens to the public for its annual Christmas Fair.
Organisers are confident the Camden Rd extravaganza will be a crowd pleaser for all ages.
The event, from 4pm to 8pm, will include carnival rides, a giant slide, an animal farm, gourmet food, music, a monster raffle, show bags, face painting, Leopold Men’s Shed and a great range of market stalls.
Fair committee president Jodie Warrick said the event was a wonderful way for the school and the community to get together and have fun.
“Our school is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and it’s great to see the school kids get involved in making this fair a standout,” Mrs Warrick said.
“They’re creating items for sale and running their own stalls. They can’t wait for Friday afternoon to arrive!’’
The fair will also feature an inaugural Fyans Park Great Cake Bake-Off, open to adults and children. Celebrity judges Leonie Mills, Gail Thomas, Jennifer Anderson and Annie Hillis will select the winning creations.
Stalls will offer hand-crafted Christmas gifts, toys, bags and craft made from donated fabric scraps. A cake stall, an old-fashioned lemonade stand and a pick-your-own lolly stall will also feature.
Mrs Warrick said Santa would be one of the first through the gates, with a 4.10pm appearance, while Geelong singer Denis Walter would perform at the night’s end.
The Christmas Fair is the school’s major fundraiser for the year.
Entry is by gold coin.
