CORIO children will join together in song next week as an introduction to the merger of their eight primary and secondary schools in 2011.
The students will gather at Flinders Peak Hall on Thursday to simultaneously sing Come Play Your Part in a music program involving half a million school children around Australia.
Corio Primary School performing arts teacher Amanda Baulch said the event would be an important stepping stone to the merger creating Northern College P-12.
“We decided what a fantastic opportunity this could be for all our northern schools to get together before we will merge next year,” she said.
“Across the eight schools we’re estimating close to 300 children will take part.
“Music is such an important thing for all children to develop self-confidence, self-discipline and teamwork in a positive way,”
Nikiesha Short, 12, was “very excited” to be one of 50 Corio Primary School students set to take part in the singing.
“I can’t wait to just have a great time with my friends,” she said.
