High school students have helped create two Aboriginal art murals installed as a feature on a corrugated iron wall at Waurn Ponds’ Leisurelink.
The group of young Aboriginal students from Grovedale Secondary College designed and created the murals and associated artwork under the guidance of local indigenous artist Nathan Patterson.
One mural represented the young people’s view of Geelong, while the other depicted a meeting place with surrounding images representing them, City Hall said.
City Hall’s Youth Development team ran two after-school workshops with the students to help them with their artistic creations.
The murals were “an important way to encourage young people to connect with their culture”, City Hall’s Fiona Reidy said.
“The aim of the workshops was to provide young people with a space to connect with culture and country, have key conversations about culture and identity and to be able to express them through art,” she said.
