Donors emerge

By MICHELLE HERBISON

St JOHN of God hospital has raised a third of its $1.5 million goal two weeks after announcing a community appeal to help fund its $65 million redevelopment.
A spokesperson said the hospital received three individual donations of $100,000, including from Frank and Anthony Costa and Lino and Marina Bisinella.
“We have received $500,000 from approximately 20 different donors,” the spokesperson said.
“Approximately 12 were from individual families, one not-for-profit, with the remainder from businesses.”
High construction costs and tender results had forced the hospital to “manage the costs of some elements” and seek community funds.
