Caddies reunion draws disco fans

By NOEL MURPHY

GEELONG’S hit nightclub of the ’70s and ’80s is boogying back to life.
DJ George Toppa has organised a one-night-only reunion of former Golf View Hotel hotspot Caddies, bringing together its patrons, DJs, bands, bar staff and even security workers.
Mr Toppa has used a dedicated Facebook page, The Friends of Caddies Disco, to secure over 300 fans for the event at the original venue, which has since become North Geelong ’s Sphinx Hotel.
He’s also tracked down a raft of old pictures, videos, posters, recollections and other memorabilia from an entertainment era otherwise consigned to the sentimental memories.
“For those that don’t know or can’t remember, Caddies Disco was a pioneer of Geelong entertainment in the late ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, and had the crowds to go with it,” he said.
“We’ve already sold 320 tickets. It’s going to be big.”
Mr Toppa said the reunion would be on 13 July, with tickets available from the Sphinx.
