Virtuoso Chang ‘thrilled’ to play Geelong

INTERNATIONAL violin virtuoso Sarah Chang will perform with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in Geelong next month.
The promoters of the Costa Hall concert said the American musician was regarded as “one of the most gifted violinists of her generation”.
Chang will play Bruch’s Violin Concerto when she joins the orchestra in Geelong on 10 April.
The concerto had “a special place” in Chang’s heart, she said.
“It was my audition piece for The Juilliard School when I was five years old and it was the concerto that got me into the school of my dreams.
“I rediscovered the work a few years ago and fell completely in love with it all over again. It’s one of the most romantic, lush, beautiful concertos in the entire violin repertoire.”
Chang said she was “thrilled” about performing the concerto in Geelong and Melbourne, where she will play two other concerts with the orchestra
Chang’s teacher, the late violin virtuoso Isaac Stern, once advised her to “wake up every day and be grateful that you’re a musician because you’re meant to do this”.
Chang then bought his violin, a fabled 300-year-old Guarneri de Gesù, which she will play in Geelong.
