Warriors take on Box Hill in NPL

By JOSIP ZILIC

NORTH Geelong Warriors hosts Box Hill United at Lara’s Elcho Park in National Premier League Victoria round-two action this weekend.
The team’s maiden NPL win over Dandenong in round one came at the cost of injuries to skipper Michael Anderson, Michael Grgic, Mark Paleka and Darren Lewis, who missed the Warriors’ subsequent Docherty Cup match against Preston Lions.
Despite a 2-0 loss to the Lions, Warriors Coach Ante Skoko remained pragmatic about the upcoming NPL fixture.
“We need to address why we copped the goals and ensure we don’t give the opposition the opportunity to get to the ball first when we’re under pressure,” he said.
North Geelong could look to youngster Kristian Edwards, who scored four goals against Dandenong in the under-20s.
The early form of tenacious Vito Cichello is also promising for the Warriors, who have benefited from his forward surges.
Box Hill also had a surprise defeat in the Docherty Cup, going down to North Sunshine Eagles in a penalty shootout after beating Richmond 4-1 in the first NPL round.
The results set up an intriguing encounter between North Geelong and Box Hill as they seek to consolidate their winning ways in the first round.
