GEELONG shooters are joining a Werribee clay target club after losing their home at Limeburner’s Point.
Officials believe Geelong Gun Club should relocate to Werribee permanently to capitalise on its emerging international-standard shooting range.
State Government forced the century-old Geelong club off its site overlooking Corio Bay last year after a seven-year battle to reclaim the land amid concerns about environmental damage.
Werribee club president Barry Kavanaugh said the homeless Geelong shooters had embraced his club’s facilities, attending most of its four sessions a week.
Victorian Clay Target Association state administrator Judith Kent said the Geelong monthly shoot should stay at Werribee.
“If they don’t open the club or get another piece of land, they’ll go there because that is the closest site.”
