Brittany back in the swim …

By NOEL MURPHY

BRITTANY Nunan’s been out of the limelight while studying and travelling but she’s getting back in the swim of things.
The former state and national competitor is putting Geelong’s web-footed fraternity through its paces at Kardinia Pool and Norlane Waterworld.
A recent degree graduate in health and exercise, the 23-year-old is coaching Geelong City Aquatic swim club and working hard to spread the word about the benefits of swimming.
“We’re doing swimming for people for fitness, we’re doing competitive level swimming for country, state and national levels, and soon we’ll be running masters classes,” Brittany said.
“We want to grab those people interested in open-water swimming, too.
“Swimming can be very good for students, too, especially, say, year 12s looking for a good option to keep up their strength.”
Brittany said the days of long hours clocking up laps had ceded way to more-sophisticated training techniques.
“It’s more about quality rather than quantity – it doesn’t have to be so time-consuming.”
The Newtown swimmer admits the travel bug bit strongly after completing her tertiary studies.
She recently returned from three months travelling solo in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and other parts of the Dark Continent, and plans more travels in the future.
That, of course, will only be between swimming coaching.
