Conference for busy women

“IF YOU want something done, ask a busy person,” wacky redheaded comedian Lucille Ball is reputed to have said.

It’s a theme taken up by Business and Professional Women Geelong in its International Women’s Day conference this year.

BPW president Liz Grant said the conference was aimed at helping make ideas become a reality.

“Often it’s the people that are already stretched that are asked to participate in a project, or perhaps have an idea they’d love to get involved in.

“But the view is that if it’s your idea, then you’ll have to do it all yourself. And who has time for that?”

Ms Grant said the conference would feature speakers to help participants get inspired, plan, enrol the team, understand the funding options and take the first step to get their big idea off the ground. She said conference would help women in business, career, at home, with their family or in their community to achieve without doing it all.

The inspiring line-up includes Deb Nash from Truffleduck, Ally Harvey from Back to Back Theatre and Bron Lawson from Bluebird Foundation.

Lisa Thomas from Intended Future and Cynthia Scherer from Give Where You Live will offer a range of business and community funding options and the key to a great grant application.

Jen Harwood will provide tips on how to build the right team for their idea while Davidsons’ Peter Rankin will talk planning and Robin Miles from InspireMe Consulting will get participants off on the right start.

Kylie McEwan from conference sponsors Davidsons said the theme would resonate with women.

“We know from our conversations with customers and in the community that there are a lot of great ideas in the Geelong region. But finding the time to do them can be a challenge.

“This conference particularly encourages women in not-for-profit organisations, from kindergarten committees to large charities, to attend as a number of tickets have been sponsored by an Australia Post Our Neighbourhood Community Grant.”

The conference is Friday 7 March at the Geelong Conference Centre from 9am to 5pm. Ticketing information is at trybooking.com.au/EGHQ or email liz.grant@geelongchamber.com.au.
