Hunt for man over attack in city lane

Police are hunting an attacker who left a man with possible brain injuries after a serious assault in central Geelong.
Geelong Crime Investig-ation Unit Detective Senior Constable Jamie Cookson said the victim was found unconscious in a laneway behind James Street about 4.45am on January 25.
Police believed the man was a victim of a “serious assault”.
“A passer-by found the man lying in a pool of his own blood,” Det Sgt Cookson said.
Det Sgt Cookson said the victim sustained “severe lacerations” to his face and the top of his head as well as a broken wrist.
Police believed the victim was “intoxicated” when he was attacked.
Det Sgt Cookson urged witnesses to contact police.
“Anyone who may have witnessed the assault or who may have information about the man in the picture (above) should notify police immediately,” he said.
Det Sgt Cookson said the assault reflected an ongoing violence problem in central Geelong.
He asked anyone with information to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
