Local businesses have officially caught AFL Grand Final fever
In the lead up to tomorrow’s match between Geelong and Hawthorn, hundreds of shop owners have thrown their weight behind the Cats, plastering windows with blue and white merchandise.
Gripping an inflatable cat decked out in a blue and white jersey and humming along to the tune of “We Are Geelong”, Tell-A-Balloon owner Pippa Ruscito said she couldn’t wait for tomorrow’s game.
“It’s going to be great,” she squealed.
Ms Ruscito said every time the Cats have made the finals since 1986 – 11 occasions including six grand final berths – she has decked the windows blue and white.
“I remember the 1989 match between the Cats and the Hawks – I went crazy like this too,” Ms Ruscito said.
“The loss was disappointing but now we’re going to have two wins in a row.
“Decorating the windows really helps the team and it gets everyone excited.”
Plunj on Malop Street has also dressed their shop front with blue and white paraphernalia
“I think it really helps the team on the road to victory,” Plunj’s Cailah Skinner said.
“We’re also closing early so we can all watch the game.
“Hopefully they get a back-to-back.”
