Primary kids up to mystery challenge

By John Van Klaveren

Year four and five students from Anglesea Primary School prepared for battle this week.
They gathered at Geelong College’s middle school to defend their two-year hold on the Challenge Cup against 11 primary schools from around the region.
The annual day of art, technology and maths activities asks students to put their brains to work to solve a major mystery problem.
Principal Andrew Barr said the challenge had since 1994 aimed to create learning opportunities for students from around the region.
“We’re excited to welcome this group of curious and creative learners to our college and to see how they tackle the activities, particularly the major problem.
“Opportunities to learn in different ways and outside of the normal learning environment can help to develop brain function and confidence.”
Mr Barr said the challenge had a competitive element, with placegetters acknowledged in each of the specific activities and the overall winning school taking home The Geelong College Challenge Cup, which Anglesea won in 2012 and 13.
