AUSTRALIA is like Texas, according to YellowFever front man Adam Jones.
“The landscape and people’s misconceptions of what it’s actually like are the same. Texas has big cities, too,” he laughed.
“I imagine Australians to be smart and witty, so I’m very excited to visit.”
Jones and band-mate Jennifer Moore will tour Australia later this month after dominating America’s art-pop music market.
Jones and Moore, who formed in 2006, said a spot at Melbourne’s Sugar Mountain Festival would allow them to travel south-west for a stop in Geelong.
The band is visiting Australia after completing a string of US dates.
Hailing from Austin, Texas, the band has released a string of EPs and singles that were compiled onto YellowFever’s self-titled album in 2009.
A first official album is in the works and will be on a record store shelf later in 2011.
Jones described the band’s amalgam of drums, guitar, organ and synth-bass in jerky rhythms and willowy arrangements as comparable to a walking music man.
“I think we’re entertaining to watch and other musicians love us because we’re trying to do what others aren’t,” Jones said.
“We’re multitasking with all these instruments and so far it’s working.
“We always wanted to do something different. We’re like the Go-Betweens or Young Marble Giants in the now with lots of instruments.”
YellowFever will play at the Nash in Geelong on May 1.
