COUNTRY-STYLE laughs come to the city with Rod Gregory.
The 68-year-old farmer is on his way to Geelong after finding success on Australia’s Got Talent as comic creation the Old Fella.
He described his show as like a meeting place where friends gather for a night of belly laughs and silly skits.
“I come from a great, big town of 800 called Maitland, so my stuff resonates with country people. We like the earthy stuff without the filthy stuff.”
Gregory said he was “living the dream” as a comedian.
“The best part about this job is I only work at night, so the rest of the day is mine.
“When you compare it to driving a tractor around in circles for 16 hours it’s bloody fantastic.
“I’m 68 years of age and the alternative to this is bowls. Well, it beats the s… out of bowls.”
Gregory promised to avoid the mistake of many comedians in trying to impress rivals rather of audiences.
“A lot of comedians today are all about political satire instead of just the stand-up funny stuff,” he observed.
“It’s a real mistake because the people who come to watch are bricklayers and secretaries who’ve done a hard day’s work. They just want to sit down and have a good old-fashion belly laugh.”
Gregory will perform at Buckley’s Entertainment Centre, Breakwater, on April 4.
