Golfers chip in to raise cash for McKellar Centre project

More than 100 charitable golfers have swung into action for the region’s peak aged care and rehabilitation facility.
The field of 108 teed off in teams of four for Ambrose competition at 13th Beach golf course last Friday to raise vital funds for North Geelong’s McKellar Centre.
Founded by the Independent, the 15th annual McKellar Centre Charity Golf Day raised about $22,500 for improvements to the facility’s hydrotherapy pool.
Players and sponsors contributed two thirds of the money, with AMP Foundation contributing the remainder through a donation of 50 cents for every dollar raised.
Previous McKellar centre golf days helped fund development of the pool and have raised money for other projects such as landscaping and the purchase of therapeutic equipment.
Jason Barker, of major sponsor Welsh Kline Financial Group, was thrilled with this year’s fundraising result.
“It was very successful day,” Mr Barker said.
“We thank all the players, sponsors and people associated with the McKellar Centre Charity Golf Day and hope they’ll all be back again next year to continue raising money for this great cause.”
Independent managing editor Tony Galpin said the paper was proud to be a part of the event.
“The Independent has been behind the event for all its 15 years. We look to continue being a part of this popular, worthy event.”
Mr Galpin said McKellar Centre deserved widespread support.
“As the largest rehabilitation and aged care facility in western Victoria, it’s likely everyone who lives here will at some time either need the centre’s services themselves or know someone who does.”
