ABC star returns as host to search for more talent

Radio announcer Emma Ayres will return to Geelong as host of this year’s Star Search talent quest.
The host of ABC Classic FM’s Breakfast program said she was passionate about encouraging young performers.
Ms Ayres said the experience of competing in the Star Search would be invaluable to young performers dreaming of a career in music.
“Star Search is a wonderful opportunity for the young performers because it gives them the chance to perform before a large audience at a major concert venue,” she said.
“Last year’s talented winner, Caleb Vines, is sure to go on to great things.”
Powercor Star Search gives local amateur vocalists and musicians the opportunity to compete in a grand final for prizes up to $1000 in each major category.
Rotary Club of Highton founded the event in 1976 as an amateur radio talent quest.
Star Search is now Geelong’s longest-running musical talent quest.
Previous winners have gone on to international acclaim, such as pop star Missy Higgins and opera soprano Cheryl Barker.
The grand final and public concert will start at 7.30pm on May 29 at Deakin University’s Waterfront Campus Costa Hall.
Entries are available at www.starsearch.net.au.
For more information, email powercorstarsearch@gmail.com.
Star Search grand final tickets cost $20 each, $15 for concession card-holders or $55 for a family.
The Independent is a Star Search sponsor.
