AAMI ‘resolving’ burnt client claims

By Luke Voogt

Insurance giant AAMI has resolved four of the seven remaining claims for houses lost in Wye River’s Christmas bushfire.
The resolutions follow Corangamite MP Sarah Henderson’s accusations earlier this month that AAMI was “trying to screw” victims with coverage shortfalls of up to $250,000.
“Of the three remaining AAMI claims, we are working very closely with our customers to finalise a settlement,” an AAMI spokeperson said on Thursday.
Geelong’s Mark Strachan, who lost a holiday home at Wye River, said he was one of three short-changed clients with unresolved claims.
“We came back in early January and there was nothing except for steel, powder and molten glass,” he said.
Mr Strachan met an AAMI agent for more than an hour last week to discuss his claim.
“AAMI were quite intent on trying to move the claim forward,” he said.
“It seemed to be a productive meeting.
“I’m optimistic after that meeting that they’re going to do the right thing.”
