Charges laid over Bell Park taxi driver death

MAJOR Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a fatal collision last Christmas that claimed the life of Bell Park taxi driver Raza Hussain.
The Hamlyn Heights man was charged with 12 charges including culpable driving, dangerous driving causing death, reckless conduct endangering life, drive under the influence, refuse a breath test and speeding.
The 37-year-old was summonsed to appear at the Geelong Magistrates’ Court on 6 December.
Mr Hussain was stationary in a taxi on Anakie Road when it was struck by a Holden Commodore travelling east on Ballarat Road about 6.15pm on 25 December, 2012.
He died at the scene. He was a father of five and the family’s only breadwinner.
A vehicle stationary next to the taxi containing a family of five was also struck. The occupants sustained minor to moderate injuries as a result of the collision.
