Thieves steal $200k of tools

Thieves have stolen about $200,000 worth of machinery after sneaking onto a commercial construction site in Corio twice in one week.

Offenders broke into offices and shipping containers at the Heales Road site between 4pm on 16 June and 6am on 18 June, Geelong Crime Investigation Unit detectives said.

Offenders trespassed onto the site again between 12pm on Saturday and 6.30am on Monday, they said.

During the second burglary offenders used an excavator already onsite to load large, heavy items onto a truck, detectives said.

The thieves stole a Somero Laser Screed S485/S15R valued at $165,000, a yellow Wacker Neuson ride-on trowel model CRT48 valued at $2000 and other equipment, detectives alleged.

Police on Monday released images of two of the stolen items in hope Geelong locals might spot them.

They urged anyone who saw suspicious behaviour around the site at the time of the burglaries to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.

Police also urged anyone who had information on the equipment’s whereabouts to contact Crime Stoppers.
