Hands-free teen rider loses bike

Police caught a teenager riding 148km/h without his hands on the handle bars in a 60km/h zone at North Geelong on Sunday.

State Highway Patrol officers intercepted the 19-year-old North Geelong man riding 88km/h over the limit on Duro Street just before 10.45am.

The teen will spend the next 30 days without his new motorcycle after police impounded it, costing him $994.

The rider had only had his probationary licence for six months and owned the motorcycle for a month, a police spokesperson said.

Police will charge the rider on summons with a range of traffic offences.
