ST JOSEPHS gets the chance to climb back into Geelong Football League’s top five this weekend when it plays St Albans at St Albans Reserve.
Joeys have been much maligned this year and making the finals looked very remote only a few weeks ago but to its credit it has managed to get its year back on track.
Having Peter Street back in the side helps and it looks as though Paul and Dale Carson have finally settled into the style of their teammate’s play.
Beating St Albans will be no easy task because the Super Saints are developing well for coach Peter Davenport who has instilled his never-say-die attitude into the team. Adam Marsland, Mark Dragicevic, Tye Holland and Pat Tucker are having good seasons and the side has already won more games than expected.
Joeys won’t take this game lightly, as Grovedale has already taught it what can happen when you underestimate an opponent.
Expect Joeys to win.
Other selections: Colac v BELL PARK, WEST SAINTS v Newtown, Grovedale v LEOPOLD, Lara v SOUTH BARWON and North Shore v ST MARY’S.

Poor old Ocean Grove can’t take a trick.
Just when it closes to within one game of the top five, the fixture throws it up against top-of-the-ladder Geelong Amateurs at Queen’s Park.
Last week everything went right for the Grubbers when they beat Modewarre and fellow fifth-place aspirant Anglesea went down to Drysdale.
Bernie Lynch, Greg Costello, Callum Jones and Travis Gavin provide a great example to the many young players in the Grubbers’ side.
Key player Jamie Dalton will be sorely missed but it’s likely that he will miss the rest of the year, so the rest of the side will have to lift.
Playing Ammos on its own turf is a big ask for every team in the competition because Amateurs has proven stars all over the ground.
Jason Tom is firing in the forward line and is second on the league goal-kicking ladder, while Anthony Fagan, Trevor Edwards and Blair Kelly are giving him plenty of opportunities.
Barwon Heads proved a few weeks ago that Ammos can be beaten and the Grubbers will be looking to exploit the same weaknesses but the Amateur’s all-round strength should see it take the points.
Other selections: ANGLESEA v Portarlington, DRYSDALE v Modewarre, Newcomb v TORQUAY, Barwon Heads v QUEENSCLIFF.

Werribee Centrals’ domination of Geelong and District Football League comes under threat this weekend when it travels to Bannockburn to take on the second-placed Tigers.
The Centurions have not been beaten this year and are two games and a healthy percentage clear of the rest. Travis Johns, Brad Bunworth, Anthony Kitchen, Nathan Lovell and Blake Pilkington are just a handful of stars that the coach David Leatch has in his line-up and he is utilising them perfectly.
Big, strong and mobile are the key attributes of the sid, with many predicting a premiership and a champion’s flag at Galvin Park by the end of the year.
Bannockburn is also having a good year for first year co-coaches Ron Pilgrim and Ross Dillon. Last week the Tigers had an unexpected loss to North Geelong and will be champing at the bit to prove that they too have a chance of taking this year’s flag.
Aaron Eddy, Rohan Pidhaini, Duane Broom and Brad Furtulla will have to be in thick of the action if the Tigers are to have any chance because Werribee looks too good.
Other selections: Corio v INVERLEIGH, EAST GEELONG v Geelong West, BELL POST HILL v Anakie, Belmont Lions v Winchelsea, Thomson v NORTH GEELONG.
