FORMER Surf Coast musician Ash Grunwald has won one of the Australian music industry’s highest awards.
Grunwald won APRA Music Awards’ Blues and Roots Work of the Year for his single Breakout.
The award victory was the first time Grunwald has won an APRA title despite numerous previous nominations. He shared the award with Breakout co-writer Pip Norman.
Grunwalled said he was thrilled to win the award.
“It really means a lot to me,” he said.
“It’s great to be recognised by your peers for your songwriting ability.”
The former Torquay resident moved from the Surf Coast to Byron Bay, in northern New South Wales, six months ago.
The win has provided welcome momentum as Grunwald tours Australia to promote his latest album, Hot Mama Vibes.
Grunwald spent a night off touring to accept his APRA award.
