Plenty of activities to keep warm this winter

Winter in Aireys Inlet will warm up this year with the town’s fifth annual festival bringing an eclectic range of events and activities to the coast from June to August.
Festival co-ordinator Anne Dansick said the bumper program for this year’s Love Winter in Aireys festival contained a record 24 events and activities.
Kicking off on 3 June with Aireys Biggest Morning Tea, the festival promises entertainment for visitors and locals every week throughout winter.
The program includes the popular Winter Ball at Fairhaven Surf Club, Wintersong at the Aireys Pub and the intimate Danny Spooner Afternoon House Concert at Cimarron.
With a local tennis tournament, trivia nights and literary gatherings, the Love Winter in Aireys festival presents community events across a wide range of genres.
“We are thrilled with the number and range of events scheduled for this winter because there is something on the program for everyone,” Dansick said.
“Whether you prefer to sing and dance or enjoy international cuisine, or just like to sit and watch and take it all in, you’re bound to find an event that appeals.
“We launch this year’s festival at The Captain of Aireys with Aireys Biggest Morning Tea, an important fund-raiser for the Cancer Council and a terrific gathering for many people throughout the community.
“The festival continues through June with activities for tourists, such as the Split Point Lighthouse Express Tours and Aireys Market Foodie Day.
“There are also events that might appeal more to locals, like Wear Artrageous at the Aireys Hall and Under the Influence of Words at the Aireys Pub.”
This year’s extensive program also features book launches, wellbeing and yoga workshops, live music, artist trails, international food and a family movie night at the pub.
The Aireys Inlet arm of Rural Australians for Refugees (RAR) will present two engaging events on the program including the popular Aireysistable extravaganza evening of music, dance and food and a refugee author event at Great Escape Books.
Prominent human rights lawyer Julian Burnside will appear at a dinner organised by the Aireys Inlet Uniting Church.
“We’re thrilled to have such diversity and events that educate as well as entertain,” Dansick said.
