Westfield Geelong is set to lose another retailer, with Dick Smith reportedly closing in eight weeks.
News reports today confirmed receiver Ferrier Hodgson had been unable to find a buyer for the chain after it went into receivership last month with debts of $400 million.
“While we received a significant number of expressions of interest from local and overseas parties, unfortunately the sale process has not resulted in any acceptable offers for the group as a whole or for Australia or New Zealand as standalone businesses,” receiver James Stewart told Fairfax.
The Geelong store’s staff will be among 2890 Dick Smith employees who will lose their jobs.
The store will be the latest in a series to close at Westfield Geelong. GNC LiveWell, Jaffle Jaffle and Jeep have already closed this year, while Westfield’s ABC Shop shut in 2015.
