Cops bust three over drug haul

Alex de Vos
Torquay Police have charged three Surf Coast residents over the “significant” seizure of more than 50 marijuana plants.
Detective Sergeant Craig Blunt, from Torquay’s Criminal Investigation Unit, said police arrested one woman and two men on Tuesday morning.
The arrests followed raids on three Surf Coast properties as part of the police operation.
Reports yesterday said the properties were at Torquay, Jan Juc and Winchelsea.
Police charged the trio with cultivating and possessing a drug of dependence.
Det Sgt Blunt said police seized between 55 and 60 plants as well as a “range” of hydroponic equipment.
He valued the marijuana haul at $60,000.
“The first hydroponic set-up was a very good system and the other two were grown in backyard gardens,” Det Sgt Blunt said.
“It’s certainly a significant seizure that’s going to have an impact.”
Det Sgt Blunt said police had received information about the drugs and “proceeded to investigate the matter”.
“But we’ll continue to investigate the matter further,” he said.
Det Sgt Blunt said the offenders would face Geelong Magistrates’ Court later this year.
He urged anyone with information about suspicious activity involving the cultivation and trafficking of drugs to phone Torquay police on 5264 3400.
