Stage opens with Quartet

Geelong Repertory Theatre’s first production for 2017 ‘Quartet’ will open in the city’s west next Friday for a three-week run.
The play tells of four retired opera singers who band together to save their retirement home with song.
The group collaborates to sing one their greatest successes from decades ago, the quartet from Act 3 Scene 1 of Guiseppe Verdi’s classic opera, Rigoletto.
But their collaboration forces them to relive a sordid past of broken relationships.
Can they overcome senility and decades of regret – and again find love – to save their home?
Majella O’Connor will play the flighty Cissy Robson and Bryan Eaton is the eccentric Reginald Paget.
Tony Wright plays the role of Wilf Bond taken and Claudia Clake will play the part of Jean Horton.
Established Geelong Repertory director and performer Geoff Gaskill will direct the play.
The play is based on the movie of the same name, which starred Billy Connolly, Maggie Smith, Tom Courtney and Pauline Collins.
The play runs from 3 February for three weeks, until 18 February at the Woodbin Theatre.
Tickets are available from the Geelong Performing Arts Centre by phoning 5225 1200 or visiting gpac.org.au.
