A man has used a fake licence to allegedly steal $10,000 from a business account at a bank in Belmont, according to police.
But a suspicious staff member seized the driver’s licence to stop him making off with a further $15,000 from an East Geelong bank later the same day.
Police investigating the incidents released security camera images of a man initially wearing a trilby hat and a singlet before appearing in a darker T-shirt.
The man in the images “may be able to assist” in the investigation, police said.
The culprit withdrew the $10,000 from the Belmont bank in High Street, about 10am on 14 March, police alleged.
“Later that day he allegedly attended a Garden Street bank in East Geelong where he attempted to withdraw $15,000 before the licence was seized by a staff member who found it suspicious.
“The man is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance and was initially wearing a white Everlast tank top and dark pants with a fedora-type hat. He then changed into a dark coloured T-shirt later on.”
Police alleged the wanted man also used fraudulent identification to withdraw money at Melton the same day.
