GEELONG Trades Hall could throw its weight behind a campaign against a chemical storage plant proposed for North Geelong.
Trades Hall will vote on backing the campaign after this week advising objectors on how they might wage a case against Teleta Group’s proposed storage for up to five million litres of chemicals.
Residents from properties on nearby Roseneath St met Trades Hall secretary Tim Gooden who advised them on strategies groups had used against plans as Torquay’s Spring Creek development and Lara’s Serendip housing proposal.
“On the face of it, I’ve got concerns,” Mr Gooden said.
“Geelong Trades Hall supports community groups to organise and campaign about an issue and I gave them some pointers to some of the more successful strategies around the area.”
Teleta has argued its plans to up storages from 4000 to five million litres would not include gases or explosives or anything unavailable on supermarket shelves.
The site is zoned industrial one.
The Independent was unable to contact Teleta company director Ryan McGarigle for comment as he was in China for the week.
