No GOTV for channel

GEELONG’s first internet television channel has gone out of business, blaming limited “vision” and commercial support among the city’s business community.
GOTV operated for four years under parent company The Tribe Productions.
The Tribe managing director Adam Tribe said GOTV lost “hundreds of thousands of dollars”.
“We’re talking (enough for) a reasonable house,” Mr Tribe said.
“There weren’t enough people who shared the vision or who believed it was worth supporting and that it would help their businesses.”
Mr Tribe said GOTV wound up without debts, so The Tribe would stay in business.
However, the failure of the channel had cost three jobs.
Mr Tribe believed that ongoing costs would be the death of online television in regions like Geelong.
“To have a dedicated channel, the budgets we were running were, in comparison to any other channels, extremely affordable but it’s much more expensive than running a standard news information website.”
GOTV began Australia’s first online television news service in November, 2007.
