Drink driver nabbed travelling wrong way on freeway

An intoxicated motorist driving the wrong way down the Princes Fwy between Avalon and Werribee almost collided with two trucks earlier this morning.

Police have urged the truck drivers, who had to swerve to avoid colliding with the 26-year-old driving a blue Toyota Kluger four-wheel drive, to contact Crime Stoppers.

Critical Incident Response Team members intercepted the man near Duncans Rd exit in Werribee after first spotting him near Avalon around 3am.

He travelled 20 kilometres towards Melbourne in the Geelong-bound lanes.

Police were expected to charge the Mulwala man with drink driving and other traffic offences after he blew 0.115 in a breath test conducted at Werribee Police Station.
