Shelter just in time to beat the heat

By JOHN VAN KLAVEREN

IT MAY only be a simple bus shelter but it means a lot to the residents of Grovedale’s Abervale retirement village.
While the bus stop across the street was handy, residents were left to the elements while waiting for a ride, so they decided to write to their ward councillor, Bruce Harwood.
Abervale chief Ian Prendergast said Cr Harwood “took up the cause”, resulting in the new shelter for residents to await buses protected from the elements.
“It was mainly getting wet in winter and the lack of shade in summer that was the issue, so the residents are happy with the new shelter and appreciate the support from council,” Mr Prendergast said.
“Now that it’s there a lot of the community is using it. It really helped during last week’s heatwave.”
