GEELONG dual premiership star Joel Selwood will watch his parents don the blue and yellow when he lines up for the preliminary blockbuster against West Coast this weekend.
Joel said parents Bryce and Maree would support younger son Scott who was in his first finals campaign, unlike his sibling at the Cats or teammate and brother Adam.
“They’ll be on the younger brother’s side this week,” Joel said.
“They’re proud of what we’ve done and to have three boys play prelim day is going to be exciting for them.
“We’re here because of them. They’ve brought us up the right way and we couldn’t thank them enough.”
Joel said he expected to play on Scott who kept Carlton’s Chris Judd to 17 possessions in the Eagles’ nail-biting three-point win last weekend.
“We go through about seven or eight different players when you play AFL these days, so I’m sure he’ll be one of them,” Joel said.
“We have to make sure we’re on the front foot this week and start the game well.
“(West Coast) are proud of where they’ve got to and they’re not going to want to finish with the prelim.”
Cats coach Chris Scott said the battle between the Selwood brothers would have no impact on the game.
“The one thing we know about Joel is he’s extremely competitive, so even though he’ll have a soft spot for his brothers that won’t transfer onto the ground for two hours on Saturday,” he said.
“It’s our job to make sure we understand the opposition as well as possible and we’ve got faith in our coaching group to do that.”
