Boys will be girls: Coutas players and officials slip into something a little more comfortable for Mad Monday.

IT WAS a rare occasion when winning a premiership was a real drag.
But the boys of Queenscliff Football Club happily donned dresses and wigs for their Mad Monday celebrations this week.
Players had promised to attend dressed as women if they won last Saturday’s Bellarine Football League grand final.
So out came the ladies’ clobber after the Coutas beat Geelong Amateurs by 39 points to win Queenscliff’s first flag since 1975.
A beaming Coutas president, Merv Godfrey, was “enormously proud” of his players for ending the club’s 36-year premiership drought.
“It had been a long time between drinks and a lot of water had passed under the bridge since we last tasted September success,” Godfrey said.
“The boys came through against all odds. This victory resulted from a real team effort.”
Godfrey said everyone associated with the club was “over the moon”.
The team drew inspiration and support from the people of Queenscliff, he said.
“All year the boys played for the jumper but on Saturday they played for the town.”
In response Queenscliff wrapped itself in the red white and blue of victory. Balloons, streamers and ‘Carn the Coutas’ signs adorned the streets and shops of the normally quiet and reserved bayside town.
“There’s a real buzz about the place,” Godfrey said.
“The premiership means so much to Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale. Everyone’s stoked.”
