Edgy project dropped for Torquay’s Esplanade

A property owner has dropped plans for a residential and retail development opposite Torquay’s foreshore.
Julie Spriggs plans to instead sell the site, at 44-46 The Esplanade, in three separate blocks.
One of the blocks, at 46 The Esplanade, was auctioned last week but failed to reach the reserve price, according to the selling agent.
Hayden Real Estate said the property was now up for private sale at $1.4 million.
“We’ve decided to sell one of the blocks and we’re not going ahead with the proposed development,” Ms Spriggs said.
Hayden’s Brian Hayden suggested the proposed Torquay Edge development could still proceed.
He said Ms Spriggs’ statement about the future of the project was “not quite correct”.
Ms Spriggs said the proposed development would have 18 apartments and eight shops, with parking for 75 cars.
