Wheelchair victim
Police are hunting an alleged thief who stole a purse from a woman in a wheelchair at Waurn Ponds.
Police alleged that the female suspect took a handbag attached to the wheelchair before removing cash from the purse inside and dumping it in a nearby bin on 9 March.

Driver killed
A Little River man has died after his car hit a roadside pole at Lara before sunrise.
Police believed the 27-year-old was the only motorists involved in the accident on Mill Road around 5.20am Saturday but urged any witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers.

Council ‘infighting’
“Clear infighting and federal politicking” inside council is a growing concern for Surf Coast Shire residents, according to a state MP.
Council was too distracted on issues such as flying a rainbow flag outside their shire office when residents had “significant” concerns about road maintenance and tip costs, said Member for Polwarth Richard Riordan.

Ponds tops
Waurn Ponds has one of Victoria’s three best railway stations, according to a survey of commuters.
But the RACV said its On Track survey also fielded complaints about “poor communications and capacity issues” at the Geelong and Marshall stations, with the latter recording a big drop in approval also for inadequate platform seating and shelter.

Businesses ‘confident’
Geelong businesses are “optimistic” about opportunities for growth, according to the city’s leading business group.
Geelong Chamber of Commerce said its annual business trends survey found that 45 per cent of respondents had “high or very high levels of confidence”, while the number planning to invest in their operations over the next 12 months was higher than in 2017.

Bridge headaches
Proposals for a third bridge from Barwon Heads would create additional traffic headaches at Ocean Grove, according to the town’s community association.
An additional bridge would turn the town into a thoroughfare for residents of new Armstrong Creek estates travelling to destinations on the north and east of the Bellarine Peninsula, said Ocean Grove Community Association.

‘Expert’ rescuer
A “world-renowned rescue expert” has conducted a road crash workshop in Geelong to improve the effectiveness of local emergency services, according to an SES statement.
Ronald De Zanger demonstrated latest tools and “rescue extrication methods” at the SES’s Bell Park office on Tuesday, the SES said.
