Kick back with INXS at Motor City fest

By Jena Marino

FANS will sing along to their favourite INXS songs at Geelong’s Motor City Music Festival next month.
Tribute band INXSIVE will play the three-day festival after a national TV mini-series last year revived interest in one of Australia’s greatest rock music exports.
The level of interest has earned INXSIVE headline status as the last act on the night of Motor City’s Tribute Fest, also featuring bands covering everything from Led Zeppelin to Guns ‘n’ Roses.
INXSIVE front man David Graham said he was looking forward to bringing the band back to Geelong for its first Motor City performance.
“We’ve always been popular down Geelong way and that’s why we’re particularly looking forward to performing at MCMF.”
Graham said last year’s miniseries, Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of INXS, had earned the band countless bookings around Victoria and interstate.
“The main reaction is that people realised how many hits they had and what legends they were. They just want to relive it.”
Graham said he was enjoying a surge in calls to return after taking the band to new venues.
“That’s a fantastic result,” he said.
“It really reflects the attitude to INXS these days.”
Formed in 1997, INXSIVE covers hits from the early days of INXS right through to the 2000s.
Graham said his band strived to reproduce both the sound and look of its namesake.
“People don’t realise how good INXS are,” he said.
But Graham put a lot of the show’s pull down to the front man he mimics, the late Michael Hutchence.
“It’s really all about Michael,” he said.
Motor City Music Festival runs from 6 to 8 March at Geelong Showgrounds.
