Oscar on the ride of his life

Oscar Durten will attempt to bicycle 16.5km tomorrow to raise money for his church’s youth mission trip to northern Australia.
The distance might not sound like much but it would be a huge achievement for Oscar.
After all, he’s just five and his feet barely reach his pedals.
Oscar grinned as he pulled out his sponsorship form.
“I won’t get tired,” he promised.
“I love riding my bike.”
Oscar’s mum, Kelly, laughed as she watched Oscar ride down the footpath.
“He’s been riding since he was about 12 months old,” she said.
“When he was two and a half he decided he wanted to ride like the big kids, so we had to take the training wheels off.”
Oscar will ride alongside other St John’s Anglican Church members in the Walk to Yarrabah event.
“People are getting sponsored to walk, run, ride or jog,” Kelly said.
“Oscar is really close to some of the kids who are going so when we heard about it we thought it would be perfect for him.”
Oscar bounced around the room showing off the money he had raised so far.
“I’m doing this for my friends,” he smiled.
“I’m really excited.”
