A MISSING Highton man could be living among homeless people after disappearing last Friday, according to police.
Sergeant Adam Forehan said police and family members had grave concerns for 24-year-old Daniel O’Keeffe.
Sgt Forehan said Mr O’Keeffe had not used his phone or bank account since disappearing from his home.
Mr O’Keeffe had failed to take his depression medication since July 12.
“His reasons for leaving are unknown,” Sgt Forehan said.
“We’re seeking assistance from the public in identifying Dan or (urging) Dan himself to make contact to let police know he’s okay.”
Police were also appealing to homeless people and their support agencies to “keep an eye out” for Mr O’Keeffe.
His family attended a police media conference on Wednesday to call on the public to help find him.
Long-term girlfriend Suzie Mansfield said Mr O’Keeffe’s disappearance was out of character.
“It’s safe to say the family and I agree it’s well and truly out of Dan’s behaviour. If he’s by himself that’s fine, we’re all happy if that’s what he wants, but we want to know he’s okay.”
Ms Mansfield made a direct appeal to Mr O’Keeffe.
“Just let anybody know (you’re okay).”
Sgt Forehan said anyone with information should phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The search was continuing when the Independent went to press on Wednesday afternoon.
